Watercolor Artist & Therapist
Have you ever been frustrated with your art? Ever sat down to paint and literally thrown the brush across the room? That might sound dramatic but I bet we’ve all thought it. I’ve actually done it and have experienced the frustration of not being able to create exactly how I felt I SHOULD.
You already know by now that I’m a watercolor artist but I’m also a therapist. Although I’ve been working in therapy for over 14 years, I’ve only been an artist for about 4. Because of my background, I love to mix self-care with what I paint. My main passion is to help you let go of the perfectionism in your life, as well as in your art. I understand what it feels like to live with anxiety and not just in my painting. Because of that reason, I love helping my students calm down while creating, embrace the mistakes, and just let go!
I believe messing up creates opportunities to help us learn and grow rather than tell ourselves we are not artistic. I also feel strongly that everyone should do SOMETHING creative on a daily basis. Making something with our own hands increases our self-esteem and helps us practice being present. If we can enjoy the process of creating, rather than dread it, we can start to find peace. These creative skills will become an easy way to take care of ourselves whenever we are feeling anxious or sad.
Where I Teach
I love teaching online, as well as in person! But, being online gives a much farther reach and the ability to influence students from all over. I currently have four SkillShare classes and have been enjoying interacting with students. My classes are all about letting go of perfectionism, embracing the mistakes, and learning from them, and relaxing. As a floral watercolor artist, I enjoy teaching the techniques and skills to paint confidently and without fear. One of my classes is all about teaching you the beginner basics so you can build confidence and experience as well.
Often we get worried about wasting watercolor supplies, time, and fear making something ugly. We get lost in the anxiety and miss out on enjoying the moment. But when we sit down to do art, we can find a way to shut out the negative narratives by reminding ourselves that this is just practice. This new story can give us a rest from the trauma we’ve been processing so we can experience pleasurable dopamine instead. On my podcast entitled, “Let Go of Art Perfectionism“, we talk about all kinds of ways our thoughts and actions interfere with our creativity. The goal is to relax and let go so we can finally experience peace and joy.
The Free Stuff
Because I love to help you in your art journey, I want to offer you my free eBook: Loosen Up Your Watercolor Florals. This contains all the secrets I’ve learned to help you advance your progress quickly, as well as build up your confidence at the same time.
I also have a free 3-page cheat sheet to help you let go of perfectionism in your art. It gives tips on different scenarios and how to deal with them. It also contains 4 practical art exercises to help you practice letting go and having fun.
I look forward to getting to interacting with you guys. I hope that together we can increase both our watercolor floral skills and also our sense of well-being. By taking care of ourselves consistently, we can take care of those that we love most. Make sure to say hi in the comments and introduce yourself as well!
Tammy Kaye, I would love to attend your art week painting in Puglia. Please send me on details of the full cost of this week so that I can organise all from this end. It seems to be just what I need – relaxing with a book, or basically just chilling with a nice G & T in the sun. I love waterclour painting and certainly need to learn how to loosen up. I am from the West of Ireland, Galway, and look forward very much to hearing from you with full details of accommodation and how many people are in the group. And also please tell me if there are other people from Ireland attending your art course. Ann
Hi Ann! I sent you an email reply about the art retreat on Friday, I hope you got it 🙂 Please let me know if you have any questions!
